Dr. Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) was a politician and a representative revolutionist in China, while Shibusawa Eiichi (1840-1931) was an industry tycoon in Japan. Both played pivotal roles throughout the course of modernization. Dr. Sun Yat-sen advocated “it is easier done than understood”, which was to inspire the revolutionary spirit of the Chinese people, while Shibusawa Eiichi proposed “knowledge and action go hand in hand”, to oppose against idle theorizing and regard benevolence and morality as the standard rules of self-cultivation. Their “theory of knowledge and practice” emphasized the importance of implementation, which had a joint influence on the Philosophy of Praxis of Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) who changed his political style as a result and contributed to contemporary Taiwan. The author focused on the “theory of knowledge and practice”, because it is the most fundamental revolutionary learning in “Sunology”, the source of mental preparation. On the other hand, Shibusawa Eiichi emphasized manifesting Confucianism in daily life to become a guide in life. Their “theory of knowledge and practice” emphasizes on the importance of action, admonishing people to follow the noble thoughts of Confucianism and carry out the thoughts in person. However, the thoughts of politicians and industrialists are not the same after all. They each represented China’s and Japan’s differed understanding of Chinese Confucianism, thus leaving great room for dialogue and leading to the unveiling of ideological integration and conflict in China's contemporary history.
