摘要(外文): As a politician who exerted a great influence on the social development of modern China, Sun Yat-sen was not only the "Prime Minister" and "Father of the Republic of China" propagandized with all-out attempt by the Nationalist Party(Kuomintang), but also a political figure commonly accepted by Chinese Communist Party and other political groups. As we know that invention and manipulation of political symbols is a familiar power technique for governments and parties, the symbol of Sun Yat-sen is just a case in this point. During the period of Kuomintang, Sun Yat-sen was gradually constructed as a spiritual idol and symbol for Chinese, and impacted on all aspects of the Chinese society and everyday life with different degrees. The Nanjing nationalist government utilized all resources owned by modern nation-states to further construct and spread the symbol of Sun Yat-sen through multiple dimensions, like time, space, ritual and so on. This symbol under the reconstruction of modern space/time and ritual performances enhanced the collective identity of citizens in Republic of China. In the process of remembering this symbol, the Chinese strengthened their primordial national sense, which inspired the whole Chinese to resist the Japanese invaders and shaped the Chinese national identity. In short, the symbol of Sun Yat-sen runs through the political history of modern China, influences and determines the identity and development of the Chinese nation.
